The Charity Carnival, which had been held for 40 years to aid the Dunolly and District Hospital, was abandoned when the local temperance society protested at, and Borough Council refused a license for, a bar.
At a public meeting it was decided to hold a race meeting with some sports in January or Febuary the following year on private grounds where the temperance society and council would have had no control.
