The Old Dunolly Hotel was de-licenced by the License Reduction Board, with the owner Albert Brown given £85 compensation and the licensee Bridget Brown compensated with £25.

The Bet Bet Shire Council decided at a meeting to divide £30 between the Ladies Benevolent Societies of Dunolly and Tarnagulla in commemoration of the Queen’s long reign to assist the poor.

A wonderful night was enjoyed when entertainments were held in the Dunolly Town Hall to raise money for the Bulli Coal Mine (Wollongong) Disaster Relief Fund with £19 collected.
Before this, however, everyone in Dunolly had let their hair down to celebrate the Queen's Birthday; a torchlight procession through the streets followed by an impressive fireworks display washed down with a hearty singing of God Save The Queen.
The Jubilee Celebration Committee recommended the erection of a fountain in Gordon Gardens as a memorial of this occasion.

The residents of Back Creek (Talbot) were thrown into consternation when they heard 6 of 7 prisoners had escaped the Back Creek lock-up when an accomplice had forced the lock with a crowbar.

Medals were distributed at the Dunolly State School in connection with the Commonwealth celebrations of the opening of the First Federal Parliament by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.
Also small packets of sweets and medallions, with the Royal portrait on each, were given to each child.
Hearty cheers were given by the school children for the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York followed by the singing of God Save the King.

The 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Dunolly as a borough was celebrated by the children being entertained on this day instead of Empire day; there was sports on the recreation ground, speeches and concerts given at the Dunolly State School and Town Hall with free entry for the old identities from the hospital.

Lilian Game, from the Dunolly State School, knitted 9 scarves, 9 pairs of socks, 11 balaclavas, 8 sleeping caps, 3 pairs of bed socks, a hot water bottle cover and a pullover for the soldiers serving overseas.

A Special Meeting of the subscribers of the Dunolly and District Hospital was held to vote to adopt the new by-law to admit paying patients.

A fire broke out in Isaac Ray's new (canvas) Live and Let Live Hotel in Broadway at 4.30am which caught Dr Crossland’s shop next door which in turn burnt Cameron and McCallum’s drapery.
The crowd of people managed to empty Ehrenberg’s fancy goods store and tear the walls down to prevent further spread of the fire which was not doused til after 8am.

It was reuilt in weatherboard, renamed the Royal Hotel then replaced with the current building in 1894.

The Customs and Excise Department were investigating if Salicylic Acid was being added to wines by taking samples from the vineyards in the region of Maryborough, Bet Bet, Mt Hooghly and Middle Bridge (Betley).

Archibald Campbell McDougall, whose paddocks were over-run by fevered gold miners at Dunolly, passed away at Benalla on this day.

Maurie Beasy was elected to the captaincy of the Carlton Football Club but as he only travelled to Melbourne from hometown Dunolly each Friday to play each week after 2 rounds he felt he couldn't do the team or himself justice so he resigned from the position for another to be elected as captain.

The Dunolly Railway Station was robbed; the safe was stolen but was found broken open further down the line with a hammer and chisel stolen from a Dunolly Company mine.
12 pounds was missing from the safe.
 This is the Wii of the late 19th century where the money was probably spent...

A man was arrested for robbing a hotel at Goldsborough; when his swag was searched he was found to have a coiners mould and metal for coining.
One could say he had hoped to be as happy as a crowned pig in poop.
But that Royal title was taken...elsewhere.

Brick by Brick Project


BRICK BY BRICK PROJECT
The brick work of both the Dunolly Town Hall and the Court House, particularly the Court House is in urgent need of repair.

The objectives of the Brick by Brick project are:
To raise funds to repair the brick work and associated plaster, paint and roofing work
To raise the profile of the buildings and so encourage their use by business and organisations beyond the immediate community

The project invites donors to purchase a brick. The bricks are gold $100, silver 75$ and bronze $25. Each sponsor will receive a certificate and have their name placed on a plaque. The Committee is seeking donations from the immediate community and beyond. Support from the legal fraternity and the National Trust is being sought.

The Dunolly Races were held with only a moderate amount of attendees despite the fair weather and good condition of the course.
Six spills were reported throughout the day but no injuries were sustained.

Dr. Crick bought the medical practice at Dunolly from Dr. Bowen, with Dr. Crick appointed as the Resident Surgeon of the Dunolly & District Hospital.

The new Waanyarra School opening was celebrated on this date with a tea meeting, a concert and a ball.
The scholars, their parents and friends from many miles around attended, with the Tarnagulla Glee Club entertaining with some musical selections.
