1867 Sir Peter McBride was born at Dunolly, 3rd son of Peter and Catherine McBride. After attending Dunolly State School and Wesley College, Melbourne, he went into his father's St Arnaud timber and general hardware store. He became a successful local trader with a reputation as an enlightened employer, and a mining investor. Carried on a hardware, timber and furniture business commenced by his father at Dunolly 1856, and at St Arnaud 1862, where he settled 1874; had mining interests in both districts and was responsible for establishment of the State coal mines at Wonthaggi. Appointed as Victoria agent-general in London 1913-1922 and settled London after retirement.

1880 A Reform League meeting was held at Dunolly while Berry and Grant were there – it was a most disorderly meeting that ever took place, several fights broke out and the police were called but they were unable to restore order, the meeting broke up in confusion, Mr. Berry said nothing new, and only referred to the combination against the Ministry.

1884 A large number of fallen women have gone to Ballarat and Echuca having been chased out of the city, the papers are full of the news of the arrival of these women.

1884 Sergeant Coyne to-day found a man named Lester lying on the road near the hospital helplessly drunk, and when brought to the lockup and searched he had no less a sum on his person than l,228 pounds 14s 11d. He is, I believe, a resident of Jones'Creek.

1884 Damages up to 1000 pounds were done by fire to the shops of Messers Desmond the hairdresser and tobacconist, Fowler, Saddler and Webb, shoemaker. The children of the later were rescued with much difficulty.

1885 The Dunolly Fruit and Wine Company held a luncheon to celebrate the beginning of business of the company, with Mr Foote, the chairman, presiding.

1885 The Dunolly Racing Club held a meeting at Tatchell's Hotel last night, and fixed the date of their races.

1885 It is the intention of the Agricultural Society to invite the Governor to open their second annual show.

1888 A serious accident happened as one of the contractors for the Inglewood - Dunolly line was superintending some work when a plank fell on him breaking the small bones of his leg and crushing his foot.

1911 At the borough council meeting it was decided to obtain particulars and estimates of the cost of lighting the town with electricity.
