March 23 ‪#‎OnThisDay‬ in ‪#‎Dunolly‬ & District ‪#‎History‬

1905 Mr Kendall’s stolen bicycle waqs found at Mr Garside’s farm in Harcourt where the thief left it and slashed the tyres in a malicious act.

1913 Owing to the number of cases of typhoid over recently reported by -the health officer, the borough council hns requested the attendance of an officer from the Public Health department -to assist in tracing the cause of the outbreak. There were 'no fewer than five eases in. one house, and others in the same vicinity.

1918 Wood Bee – The annual wood bee in aid of the Dunolly District Hospital took place on Saturday and a large number of cutters and carters attended.It is estimated that over 100 tons of wood were delivered at the hospital. During the day the cutters and carters were supplied with refreshments. After the wood was delivered a chopping contest was held in the yard and 13 competitors took part. The contest was keen and was won by A. Polinelli (gold medal) J. Deledio second (gold medal), Dermondy third (axe), and G. Taylor fourth, (pig). Everything passed off successfully.

At the final meeting of the Charity Carnival the balance sheet showed a profit of 173.13. The meeting passed the sum of 13.13 to the secretary Mr. P. Raselli.

At the annual meeting of subscribers to the Dunolly Public Library the report showed that the library had been open for 53 years and there were 3132 volumes on the shelves. Feeling reference was made to the death of librarian and secretary, Mr. J. B. Hicks.
