July 2

1879 A huge explosion took place at the Queens Birthday Mine Company when someone placed some charges of lithofracteur on top of the boiler to soften. The boiler was broken apart, steam, water and timbers thrown 100 feet into the air, sheets of iron tossed a great distance and it was heard 12 miles away in Burnt Creek.
Lithofracteur is nitroglycerine.

1899 The Man of Kent Hotel at Bromley, 2.5 miles from Dunolly, was destroyed by fire.

1929 Unfavourable weather conditions caused a heavy loss of lambs in the Dunolly district.
