1858 The Mechanic’s Institute was opened by Dr Ownes MLA. The Mechanics' Institute is to be opened by an inaugural address from Dr Owens, on Thursday, 22nd inst. The spot chosen for the Institution is the premises lately in the occupation of Messrs Fowler and Kerr.I trust the miners and people generally will show their appreciation of these exertions in their behalf aud come forward nobly to support the Institution. The subscription, 5d per quarter, is but a trifle, and within the reach of nearly every family.
1869 The cold weather at Dunolly was such that the municipal dam (lake at Dunolly Caravan Park) froze over with enough ice to hold a stone skimmed across its surface. The temp was 26F (-3 C).
1870 A telegram from Mr Grant states he will not stand for re-election for Avoca.
1888 A 386oz nugget was found in the Burnt Creek Company mine. It was put on display in the window of the London Chartered Bank where crowds have viewed it.
1891 Sister Mary Mckillop stayed overnight in the Presbytery whilst checking on orphans in Maryborough who’d been adopted from the orphanage in Melbourne.
1895 A 29 oz nugget was sold in Dunolly by a young man who found it in old workings at Waanyarra.
1903 20 mile road race cycling from Dunolly with a field of 25 starters won by P.Solomon with a time of 6.5 mins.
1910 Minister of Mines, Mr McBride, with Inspector of Mines, Mr Merrin,, visited Dunolly to inspect the new Govt Battery.
1937 At the annual State Conference of the Returned Soldiers' League ; Among motions accepted during long discussion of repatriation problems were the following -That the executive do all in its power to have the minimum age for old age pensions reduced to 55 years for returned soldiers (Dunolly)
