1873 Murphy’s Creek school began.

 1928 A Small Rush.
Melbourne, Oct. 14.
Sampling of the Indicator reef at the site of the Moliagul gold discovery have been brought to Melbourne by the Chief inspector of Mines (Mr. S. R. Prowse), who has been inspecting the standard battery erected by the Mines Department on the field. The samples are being assayed, and tomorrow a geologist from the department will visit the locality. Mr. Prowse reported on Saturday that the original prospectors had taken leases covering 600ft. along the line of reef.Miners right licences can be obtained from the Registrar at Dunolly for 2/6, enabling the holder to peg out 100ft., but a condition of the holding of these licences is that work must be done on the claim each day, otherwise the area can be jumped by some more energetic prospector. It has been officially reported to the Mines Department that people are rushing to the field in motor cars from all directions, and that claims have been taken up all along the line of reef.
