December 13 On This Day (Nganko Nyawiyu) in Dunolly (Lea Kurribur) History



1857 Double Murder at Jones’ Creek; 2 bodies found in an abandoned mine shaft, covered over with dirt.

 1870 Painter and flute maker Clewin Simon Harcourt was born at Dunolly.

 1893 Children’s concert at Bealiba in the Library Hall.

 1918 HAND INJURED. DUNOLLY, Friday Mr Jas. Shay, of Moliagul, got his left hand caught between the wheel of a dray and the stanchion iron, and the flesh was badly lacerated.

 1931 The boot shop of P Raselli was broken into and 9 pairs were stolen. The till was broken open but contained only a few pennies, Mr Parson’s garage was also broken into but nothing was taken.

 1934    £187  of Susso (unemployed sustenance pay) was stolen from the shire offices.
