January 1 On This Day (Nganko Nyawiyu) in Dunolly (Lea Kurribur) History



1864 Bealiba (Cochrane’s) Post Office opened.

 1868 Goldsborough (renamed from Goldsborough Reef) post office opened.

 1874 Natte Yallock school began.

 1889 The hot weather and drought which has been experienced in this district for some time past, has at length broken up. During these past few days the heat has been almost unbearable; registering as high as l00deg. in the shade; but today very heavy rains fell, 146 points being registered in less than two hours. The atmosphere is still heavy and oppressive, with every appearance of a further downpour. Rain was badly wanted, but there can be no further complaints this season, as all the dams and creeks are running bank high.

 1902 Tarnagulla's 37th annual sports day held to aid local charities with good weather and a great attendance.

 1903 New Years’ Day Charity Sports day at Tarnagulla to raise money for local charities; races included cycling, road race, hose-coupling competition, potato-sack race, seahorse race, Siamese race and other minor competitions.

 1908 the Powder Magazine at Dunolly was closed.

 1917 Dunolly County Court officially closed.

 1926 The annual meeting of the Dunolly Progress Association was held with officers elected and the ledger sheets show a 57 pound credit.
 The dams are dry and drinking water is scarce,

 1991 Dunolly State Savings Bank of Vic became Commonwealth Bank.
