February 4 #OnThisDay (Nganko Nyawiyu) in #Dunolly (Lea Kurribur) & District #History

1860 A Meeting at the Bull and Mouth Hotel was held where the Dunolly Jockey Club was formed.

 1882 Two Chinese miners found a 32oz nugget on an old lead.

 1914 During a charity carnival sports event a quoit dislodged a gold nugget weighing an ounce, with a rush quickly following to peg out the virgin ground in all directions.

 1914 DUNOLLY. CHARITY CARNIVAL. The annual Charity Carnival in aid of the Dunolly District Hospital was held in the new sports ground and racecourse at West Dunolly owing to a certain section being opposed to a bar and betting on the Recreation Reserve. The carnival proved an unqualified success in every respect .The attendance numbed about 1300, and the takings on the gates amounted to 43 pounds 6/, with the Temperance Bar taking 29 pounds and the Bar 62 pounds.

 1939 The post office at Emu was robbed with postal notes and cash to the value of 16 pounds stolen.
