April 9 #OnThisDay (Nganko Nyawiyu) in #Dunolly (Lea Kurribur) & District #History

1880 Philip Chauncy died in Ballarat. Sketcher, amateur photographer, modeller and surveyor throughout Victoria including Dunolly. Wherever he lived he became acquainted with the Aboriginal people and learned their languages.

1900 ROYALTY ON WOOD.TARNAGULLA, Tuesday.    A large and representative meeting of wood cutters and carters was held here last night to protest against the proposed royalty on wood. It was pointed out that the woodcutters were amongst the hardest workers and poorest paid classes of the community, and that unless a higher price were paid for their labours an additional levy would be a gross injustice. The following resolution was passed: —"That all present form a branch of the Gladstone Wood Cutters and Carters' Association, and that delegates be sent to attend a monster meeting at Inglewood  on April 12, and report to another meeting to be held here on Saturday next."

1928 Annual fete and charity sports meeting to fund raise for the Dunolly and Inglewood hospital was held at Rheola with total takings of 850 pounds.
