June 3 #OnThisDay (Nganko Nyawiyu) in #Dunolly (Lea Kurribur) & District #History

1875 A man has been found dead in a hut at Bealiba. He has been identified as one John Merryweather, who for the last three weeks has been drinking. At an inquest held abverdict of serous apoplexy, caused by excessive use of alcohol, was returned.

A miner's hut was gutted last  night by fire.

Heavy  rain has fallen this morning, but the sowing is nearly completed throughout the  district.

 1896 BICYCLE ROAD RACE.
... DUNOLLY, Wednesday.
A bicycle road race was run this afternoon between F. P. Cbeetham, Tarnagulla, and W. H.Baxter, Dunolly, for £10, a distance of 18 miles.Baxter won in 54 min. 48 see.. Cheatham about half a minute later. The latter had to change his machine during the race

 1903 Dunolly branch of ANA held a sports day which was successful given the poor weather, 23 pounds was taken at the gate.

 1915 Native of Dunolly Sir Peter McBride, Agent-general for Victoria in Great Britain, received his knighthood in the birthday honours list.
